Hello there! It’s been a while, hasn’t it?

Well, dear Reader, I refuse to let this blog go quietly into the night. Now that the summer is over, I’m determined to fire it back up … And doing so with a photography challenge!

Last week I was browsing the Pinterest (as you do!) and was inspired by some beautiful polaroids in my feed. It really made me want to give it a go!

So I did some research and realized “vintage“ Polaroid cameras (ala the 80s 👩🏻‍🎤) are pretty easy to find … and dirt cheap, too! I scored mine (pictured above) on Ebay for a mere $30 in excellent condition! (It’s a Polaroid Instant OneStep 600.)

The only catch? The film ain’t so cheap. A pack of 8 exposures will set you back about $15 - $20 US. Ouch! However, for all intents and purposes, I’m willing to splurge.

But Kristin, why on Earth would you want to take pix with a janky camera when you just got a fancy schmancy DSLR??

I LOVE my DSLR but, as you know by now, I love a challenge. With a digital camera, there’s no limit to how many photos you can take. With an instant camera, you only get 8 shots. (Each click = 💸💸💸) #TryNotToFuckItUp

You’re forced to take your time, think about composition, lighting, and get creative before pressing that shutter button … and hope you nailed the shot.

As someone who is still learning, I can’t think of a better and more fun way to improve my skills!

So, I searched for a random photo challenge on Pinterest (there are oodles!) and found one that I liked:

And so, without further ado, I give you Day 1: A Self-Portrait. 🤳🏻

Yes, I know I’m out of focus. But cut me some slack, guys. It was my very first Polaroid! I’m still learning how to use this strange, wonderful, sorcerous, device. 🧙🏻‍♀️✨

Thankfully Day 30 affords me another chance. So let’s see how my Polaroid selfie-taking skills improve. 😉 I can’t wait to see where this photo challenge takes my photography.

Anyone who wants to join in, please do!! Even if you don’t have a Polaroid, use whatever camera you have. Afterall, the best camera is the one you have. And no crazy rules. Limit yourself to just one photo, or take a buzzillion shots until your happy. Use the challenge I chose, or find your own. Let’s have fun with this, shall we?
